Chelsea ’s transfer ban seems unlikely to get overturned so they’ll have to settle for what they’ve got. Even Spurs might spend after reaching their first ever Champions League final, despite being the only team not to spend a penny last summer. Here is all the information you need to know as the spending begins… When does the transfer window officially open? This year will see the transfer window for teams officially open on Thursday May 16, at 0:01. When is transfer deadline day? The transfer window for teams in the top-flight will close on Thursday August 8 at 5pm, which for the second year in a row is before the start of the new season. Can teams make signings before the transfer window opens? Teams can agree deals before May 16, but the paperwork for the deal can’t be processed until the transfer window has officially opened. Clubs can sign domestic-based players from May 16, but players who ply their trade abroad can only join on June 9. This is when the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) opens, which clubs have to use to register an international transfer. The buying club have to upload all the information to the system and the foreign club have to match all the details. Is there a different window for loan signings? The window for loan signings is the same as those who are permanent, however there are different rules. clubs cannot register more than two players on loan from clubs in the same country any one time, while the maximum number of loan players a club can register in the same season is four. A rule that also applies is one that states a club cannot have two players on loan from the same club at any one time. When do out-of-contract players become free agents? Players who are either released or let their contract run down will become free agents when their contracts expire on June 30. They then become available to sign for free for any club, something that many footballers use to their advantage. This year is no different, with stars such as Ander Herrera and Olivier Giroud out-of-contract come July. Is the transfer window different for the Football League? This year, the transfer window for EFL clubs has changed. The transfer window opened on Monday May 6 for domestic transfers. The Championship transfer window will now close on the same date as the (5pm, Thursday August 8) after a vote approved the decision.
